“Hunter S Thompson and long time artistic collaborator Ralph Steadman are filmed as they travel to Los Angeles for an early planning meeting about the movie Where The Buffalo Roam. Fascinating for any fan of Fear and Loathing is Las Vegas, as Johnny Depp studied the footage in order to better adopt Thompson’s mannerisms. There is also a detailed description of Thomspon’s elaborate funeral plans, realized in 2005, involving a fist-shaped obelisk.”

I love Hunter S.Thompson and his work. His death was unsurprisingly mysterious and tragic.

“We should all be worried because we are sleep walking into a society where 24 hours surveillance is the norm.” - Henry Porter

“Since Tony Blair’s New Labour government came to power in 1997, the UK civil liberties landscape has changed dramatically. ASBOs were introduced by Section 1 of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 and first used in 1999. The right to remain silent is no longer universal. Our right to privacy, free from interception of communications has been severely curtailed. The ability to travel without surveillance (or those details of our journeys being retained) has disappeared.”

What I want to know is where did they get the money for all these cameras? And how did they suddenly spring up everywhere without our even knowing? Sinister stuff. Remember, “government” is the mask of big, transnational business: that is a stone cold, hard fact.

A documentary following the story of Camereon, a 4 year old boy that seems to have memories from a previous life.

Wow.

“This documentary short film brings the viewer close to the conditions isolating Palestinians within their communities. It is filmed next to the separation barrier that Israel continues to build in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Terry Boulatta, mother, teacher and community activist, shows how the 27 foot high wall surrounds her neighborhood in East Jerusalem, dividing it from the adjacent community of Abu Dis, severing the historical bonds of the two communities. The wall contributes to the suffocation of life, the latest reality for Palestinians under occupation.”

“Over 2,500 years ago, one man showed the world a way to enlightenment. This beautifully produced Buddhist film meticulously reveals the fascinating story of Prince Siddhartha and the spiritual transformation that turned him into the Buddha.”

My personal choice of orthodox spiritual paths, if I had to take one. I sincerely recommend reading any Christmas Humphrey, any Buddhist koan (meditations) compilations/teachings (such as Basho and I can’t remember the other famous ones: any comments?), and Willem Van De Vetering’s The Empty Mirror.

Not a radical film as such (typical BBC docu-drama pap, really) but a subject that is a radical concept: higher psychology as religion.

A few Koans for you to contemplate in your spare time

I don’t support anyone or anything unless I think it is going to assist the world’s poor, hinder the world arms trade, expose liars and corrupt politicians and despots, promote peace and creative harmony among the world’s people. This post is in support of Naomi Klein’s critically acclaimed new book “The Shock Doctrine (The Rise Of Disaster Capitalism)”. Ignore the glitzy marketing, think of the information and the new generations that will gain access to it because of it -Ed.

“When I finished The Shock Doctrine, I sent it to Alfonso Cuarón because I adore his films and felt that the future he created for Children of Men was very close to the present I was seeing in disaster zones. I was hoping he would send me a quote for the book jacket and instead he pulled together this amazing team of artists — including Jonás Cuarón who directed and edited — to make The Shock Doctrine short film. It was one of those blessed projects where everything felt fated.” – Naomi Klein

“December 2003 – Hundreds of Palestinians and a few internationals demonstrate against the wall built in the West Bank town of Qalqilya.”

Palestinian children versus the IDF and tear-gas grenades. It’s amazing what you can do with a bucket. A real eye-opener.
