Herbert’s Hippopotamus: Marcuse and Revolution in Paradise, Directed by Paul Alexander Juutilainen
“This documentary examines the turbulent life in California of political philosopher Herbert Marcuse (1898-1979), author of One-Dimensional Man, Reason and Revolution and Eros and Civilization, among other books, professor of philosophy at the University of California San Diego, and a visionary and influential force for the student movement worldwide during the Sixties and Seventies.”
Loved “One-Dimensional Man” during my college days. This is not really a documentary, more of an introduction for those of you who may not have read or heard of Herbert Marcuse. The idea that more recent generations are wiser to Marcuse’s concerns about the consumer society is, frankly, completely absurd.
