As an American, I have to say -- I've heard the joke, saw the punchline coming the first time, & the point is taken. There ARE historical reasons why a melting pot, continent-sized nation decided one language was preferable & necessary -- diversity ain't "all that". But that aside, if we Yanks only speak one language -- geez, Mr. Rockefeller, who set up our "education" (read: propaganda) system, whose main goal is to dumb us down to the intellectual level of mushrooms?(& it's been QUITE successful, BTW). I'm looking at you, Mr. R. Everyone knows starting a new language at 14 is too late for most people. So, when does most language education start in American schools? You guessed it -- 14.
